christmas present no.2

May 31, 2012

2012 is going to be one fine holiday film season.

i was jumping for joy last week for the great gatsby premier…..

but that’s cucumber water compared to the strawberry milkshake coming out on the same day: tom hopper, the director of the king’s speech, will release his version of les miserables on december 25th as well.

thank you santa.

one of my first memories at the theater, les miserables had me smitten from the first chords of the bass and drums.

it was under the dark lights, and with the swelling orchestra felt in my lungs and throat, that the acting bug first embed its pinchers under my skin and never let go.

no doubt this film version will delight, the cast is loaded:

russel crowe is at the helm, portraying the vile and cruel, but heavily tortured soul, javert.

sweet, annie hathaway will exercise her pipes as the poor, dying mother fantine.

amanda seyfried, a trained soprano, will most surely beguile us as the the darling, innocent cosette, with the dashing eddie redmayne as marius.

samantha banks plays my prized role: the down on her luck eponine. who, in my opinion gets the best scenes and songs.

and the hugh-jack-of all trades-man will lead the cast as the dauntless, devoted, redemptive jean valjean.

les miserables: the french revolution, the reformation of a thief into an honest man, the sacrifice of a mother for her child, romantic love, love from afar-not returned, and social justice.

i love this story.

i believe

May 30, 2012

i believe……

i believe a carousel of sparkles ’round the wrist can take a dour mood into a jolly party.

i never eschew the power of a bauble.

i believe in the dawn.

the emergence of a new day, a new sun, especially after a storm. it reminds me that nothing is permanent, everything eventually ends, even the dark clouds and the howling winds, which i actually find thrilling and tutorial.

i try to soak in the beauty and lessons of the darkness for this is where the splendor really occurs; nothing is more rapturous than catharsis.

i believe in skirts.

i’m a sucker for a twirling hemline.

even if i’m just lounging around at home, i’m happiest if it’s in something that swirls and swishes as i walk down the stairs carrying laundry baskets and loading dishes.

there’s something instantly ladylike about a skirt, and i’m lady-gaga for them.

i believe in reading the paper.

the actual newsprint paper. black smudges on my fingertips, turning the pages awkwardly, waiting on my doorstep for the grumpy delivery man as he repeatedly doesn’t return my “good morning” salutations; i adore the process of a good, old-fashioned grimy paper.

the ritual of a newspaper in hand, and the anticipation of reading the day’s events and stories unfolding before me; i eat this ritual up like truffle fries.

i believe in sweet peas.

since i can remember these fragrant, ethereal flowers have been my favorite. sweet peas brighten up any room they grace, and look best in a mason jar rather than some fancy-nancy vase; which is kind of like the sweet pea herself. don’t let the moniker and fragile looking petals fool you, sweet peas are down home gals. they vine up right here down by the seaside or right up along a country road. the kind of broad i like: malleable but still girly.

 i believe in naps.

i believe in the life healing powers of the nap. more than any green drink, prescriptive tonic or thai massage, the shut of one’s eye can remove baggage {often of the under eye ilk}, soften moods, and reinvigorate me into a better human being.

a nap is just good home economics people.

i say we introduce a bill in the senate to re-instate pre-school naptime into the workday.

all in favor?

i believe in the path of the least {kindest} resistance.

if you can’t kill them with love and sweet, you’re doing it wrong.

and finally……

duh?

so what are currently believing in m’loves?

scenes from a {holiday} weekend….

May 29, 2012

hello my sweets.

tuesday splendid to you!

did you drain each drop out of your extra day of fun in the sun?

around these parts, summer arrived with tiffany blue skies and tank top warm sun.

it t’was a splendid weekend indeed!

saturday morning began with a bout of cardio coaching on the spin bike, followed with a little c-curve and toning for orange county’s finest glutes and thighs on the mats.

post class hunkiest and i made a stop at see’s candies. i owed a box to my pilates teacher for missing last week’s training whilst in utah.

i cannot emphasize enough, the power of see’s candy to enliven an exhausted, bitter troop of girls, holed up for 6 hours in a tiny studio, on a holiday weekend.

magic.

on saturday night i made my first bloody mary of the season…extra worcestershire.

3 sips into my cocktail and i was on the floor having deep conversations with strange, pants-less and shirt-less men about buddhism, war and why my house plants never live.

this is why i do not drink.

although only to the grocery store and back, i did manage to eek out my first bedecking of summer’s white sandals. i’m a sucker for white in the summer. and my 4FREE nail polish in sea glass by mary jo matsumoto garnered many a compliments! thank you mary jo.

tell me m’loves, what were the highlights of your holiday weekend happy?
