i go through this every year during the month of september: an epic disappointment with southern california and its inability to produce seasonal weather.
throughout most of the country september means the transition from summer into fall.
here is the definition of “transition”: movement, passage, or change from one position, state, stage, subject, concept, etc., to another; change: the transition from adolescence to adulthood.
now, i’m not asking for change in “concept,” although can we officially drop the concept of the the gladiator sandal? PLEASE?
and i’m not asking for anything giant like a leap in maturity or growth in spirit, even though i think many of us this summer, myself included have regressed back to the id stage {i can’t seem to get this stupid thumb out of my mouth,} i’d just like it a few degrees cooler and maybe a sprinkle or two in the near future.
this is what i long for:
many of you are experiencing the changing of leaves, as they scatter down on the roads, providing crunchy soundtracks to your treks to and from home.
i have envied friends’ posts and photos of apple picking silliness which later turns into apple tarte-tatin delight.
across the country, those sandaled feet of the summer are transitioning to toastier, more fashionable waters of woolen socks and patina’d, leathered boots. so inviting.
meanwhile, in southern california, this is still happening.
so tell me loves, what do you love about september?
I took a walk a few weekends ago and did see brown leaves in the green (see instagram) but am sitting here in flipflops at the genius bar and sweating in my jcrew sweater that I couldn't help but put on–i just want fall to be here so bad! more fall, less rain this year please…

So if you're craving some autumn weather and colorful leaves on trees, I say you come out and visit me on the East Coast. We'll drive up to NY and down again, just looking at all the gorgeous scenery, eat some pie and something pumpkin-y, apple pick….
