not to bragg, but…..

July 25, 2013

they say “sharing is caring.”

when i was a little girl, i literally thought “share” meant “give it to katie.” my older brother seemed compelled to always offer up his goods when told to “share.”

today i share with you another bayonet in my health/beauty arsenal.

bragg’s raw organic apple cider vinegar

i’ve been drinking this potion every morning, with lemon and warm water, for the last two months.

i am an official bragg addict.

my skin, my digestion, and my overall health has dramatically improved.

i’m typically awake around 3:45am most mornings, and while my energy has always been high early in the day, since drinking my new tonic, i’m even more annoying to my groggy, grouchy beasts as i insist they bounce with me under the morning moonlight and inky, dawn sky.

what i love most is the lack of sluggish-ness that i used to feel; i’ve even dropped the extra 3-4 christmas pounds that always latch and hang on to my legs like the pesky little cousins you can never ditch at family gatherings. and, yes—i’m aware christmas is closer than it is further away-thank you.

but nonetheless i attribute my blanket well-being to bragg’s.

in addition to a morning detoxifier, raw apple cider vinegar is also a wonderful skin astringent and clarifyer for one’s hair. a couple of rinses in the shower and my tresses are lip gloss shiny.

but my newest favorite use for my bragg’s is to clean my produce.

my friend alissa clued me in on a trick to get all of the scuzz off your fruits and vegetables once you bring them home from the market.

just because you’re buying organic doesn’t mean your eats are clean. i can freak myself out and good with the image of one of my beloved peaches falling on the grocery store floor, a floor that let’s just say gets walked on by someone who’s feet have just been in a public restroom, a public restroom at a concert? a phish concert? see where i’m going? boom in my brain my pretty peach is simmering in the filth of a port-a-potty floor! gag me with a peach.

and THAT’s why i’m on my therapist’s couch every other week.

but seriously there is a lot of yuck to rid your precious and expensive produce of once you get home.

a good soak in raw apple cider vinegar and water {usually 30 minutes} pulls out all sorts of dirt, critters and unknowns.

in my mind, the vinegar acts like a bioré strip, pulling all the grime out of your fruits’ pores.

like a #fruitfacial

i love my bragg products so much i now chug their drinks on an hourly basis. they’re an acquired taste, but in my opinion, much better than kombucha or that awful coconut water that everyone seems to be drinking these days.

seriously. you people and your coconut water? blech. coconut water tastes like what i imagine IV fluid would taste like. no graçias.

so tell me m’loves, do any of you tango with raw cider vinegar too? how do you use it? sorry if i’ve turned you off from eating peaches…i  hope to god i’ve soured your affection for phish concerts.

thursday healthy to you.

save a prayer for the morning after….

July 24, 2013

you know that the feeling:

last night’s rosé: a stroll {or two} through a french summer of pink fresh where everything and everyone is prettier, easier to smile at, dare i say even rosier? yet this morning the only thing rosy is your face because it looks like it’s been beaten by said bottle of french, pink, loire valley.

or taco tuesday, which really needs a name change to: how many bowls of chips can our table face plant through? if coney island opted for an annual mexican restaurant, tortilla-chip bowl eating contest, my japanese, hot-dog chugging brethren better watch their nitrite-loving backs, because this girl can throw down bowls of chips like it’s the apocalypse, and corn tortilla is our only staple for survival.

one of the many dreadful outcomes of taco tuesday is wicked-face wednesday. that sodium is now having its happy hour on your eyes, cheeks, jowls, and pout.

or maybe you’re like me and trying to be good, eschewing the booze and the party, but just can’t sleep. the heat, a certain page-turner, stress, or general insomnia is keeping you wide awake, and your skin pays the price the morning after.

enter stage right: tata harper’s resurfacing mask.

i was first introduced to tata harper’s eponymous skincare line which is 100% natural in ingredients, but not flimsy in the results, by one of my true idols, niloofar fakhimi.

niloo gave me this mask from her planet beauty store {they have the BEST tata harper promotions and ALL of your beauty needs under one roof,} and i’ve been sold since.

made with beet and white willow extract, this mask hydrates and exfoliates without any irritation. i know it says not to, but i even put it under my eyes without any stinging or redness.

sometimes it’s hard for me to notice a difference with masks, but this is one that i see and feel a difference.

tuesday night face begone!

get your glow on lovers!

our own GREAT PARK

July 22, 2013

it’s here.

southern california’s own great {central} park is ready for us to move in, hang up our clothes, cook our farm to table cuisine, breathe worry-free exhales, as our kids bike along safe roads from our front doors to some of the nation’s most prestigious public schools, and where coming home after a long day’s work we are greeted with over 150 rescued heritage trees lining the streets and many walking trails, transporting us back in time where the simple things like blue skies and bumble bees out adventured ipads and nintendos.

m’loves, i give you pavilion park.

the first residential neighborhood of irvine’s Great Park, pavilion park, will be introduced in september.

this saturday, july 27th from 10am-5pm, you have the chance to meet with the builders of these 10 beautiful, unique, home collections.

i am so excited to participate in this meet our builder event. i will be there on saturday, camera in tow, checking out all the beautiful properties, and strolling through the Great Park where a new kind of southern california lifestyle is emerging: one where we’re able to walk more & drive less, live and celebrate outdoors rather than inside another mall, and a place where a sense of community organically blossoms like the sweet, juicy tomatoes in our summer gardens.

i’m most excited to check out the new whistler designs offered by premier home builder william lyon homes. already there is great buzz about these single-family, two-story, detached homes; some with up to 5 bedrooms.

i was lucky to score a chat with janet kemmerer, a representative from william lyon homes. after interviewing janet i’m most jazzed to see the “eclectic american architecture and deep, wide, rear yards ideal for extending livability to the outdoors.

whistler also is also proud to “feature space where it is most appreciated; in the great room and kitchen, plus spacious private master suites and lots of bedrooms for families.

if you’re in southern california this is a wonderful day to check out our Great Park, and even peruse the idea of moving in.

i hope to see you there. sign ups here
