bonkers for bonnets!

November 24, 2015

untitled-0477

i know. i know.

{head hanging in shame}

i’m officially that mother i’ve mocked for all of my life.

and my little person is suffering the consequences of my blatant hypocrisy.

although, from the way she juts that chin of hers, so sovereign and splendid—all self-derived of course: the climate of orange county entitlement seeping into their pores starting at birth, she’s just as depraved as i am when it comes to our love for bonnets; beaufort bonnets in particular.

untitled-0445

introduced to the beaufort company by my friend alexei, i swooned for smelling salts at first glance of these sweet vintage caps.

i proceeded to spend sutton’s first year’s tuition to vassar on their website.

community college it is!

{let’s be honest though, sutton’s favorite toys are tupperware and tissue paper….vassar won’t even be opening up her application letter.}

untitled-0461

hatched out of south carolina low-country, the beaufort bonnet stems from an heirloom, baby bonnet pattern handed down through generations of sweet babes.

they are even prettier in person, very durable, and wash up beautifully-i throw them in the my washing machine and hang them to dry.

and not just confined to headwear, the beaufort company makes gorgeous apparel for boys and girls as well.

sutton was soon clad in their rompers and bloomers, and looking for an invite to the nearest afternoon tea, high-society charity event, or fundraiser for the league of women voters.

she settled for sidecar donuts.

untitled-0473

the child will not stand for a bow, nor a headband, but throw a bonnet atop her head, and voila: she’s a jane austen, reciting-fool {!}—-all, afternoon, long.

 {always insisting on the “emma” role and castigating mommy to the unclever, without beauty character of “miss bates;” she scurries around playtime, bonnet bedecked, matchmaking her tissue paper and tupperware tops.}

untitled-0523

i’m honored and thrilled to announce i will be hosting a trunk show for the beaufort company in early february.

if you are interested in attending please leave me your information in the comments below so i can send you an invitation.

they offer both boys and girls garments, unisex and are great baby gifts.

NO pressure to purchase!

stay connected on instagram and facebook for updates.

girl crush: alexis schulze

August 20, 2015

thursday happy to you m’loves!

it’s girl-crush time.

you know all of those nektar juices you’re addicted to?

well today we have the {beautiful} face behind the nektar craze.

alexis schulze, co-creator with her husband steve, of nektar juice, a company just named one of the top 5000 fastest growing in america, graciously took the time to stop by GNI, to let us crush on her.

sweet as pie, and as pretty as its peach filling, alexis is never without a smile or a friendly “hello.

even before i had met her {i of course knew who she was–she’s LIKE totally famous}–she was always so nice to me and welcoming.

let’s get to know this lovely lady:

lexibear (1 of 1)

alexis, tell us a bit about yourself and how you manage this full life of yours {married to steve, {2} boys, + your juice empire.}

i think of myself as that girl in the circus balancing on a ball. she might look like she has it all together, but inside she’s freaking out! i juggle a business {i was always a teacher,} a typical busy, family life, and try to maintain my obsession with working out. my passion besides all of this is probably food. i love food…..

beauty

 name 5 bottom-of -the-jar products?

 for my face- arcona has a great line that i have been using on my sensitive, 41-year-old skin for probably 9 years now. my staples are magic white ice, a moisturizer, the solution– a nighttime repairing serum, and the vitamin A complex-a retinol formula for firming and clarity. my newest find is a natural deodorant that {so far} seems to be top notch- nourish organics {berry and fig smell yummy} and their argan butter- which is a mix of argan oil and shea butter, so it’s like butter cream on my dry sensitive skin! and not quite as hippie dippie is my oribe foundation mist. that stuff can fix my post-workout pony tail line that has ruined me for decades…always an obvious tell that i didn’t wash my hair…… UNTIL NOW!! {insert evil laugh here.}

style

who is your style icon and why?

i have to say jessica alba- she’s sexy and classy, and she’s just gorgeous!

molly sims is another one.

i think i am drawn to how real they are; they seem like peeps i would hang out with.

romper-614x460

what is your summer fashion, must-have item?

i am queen of the ROMPER! less thinking about what goes with what; throw it on with a great shoe and some fun jewelry! voila! even i can look put together that way!

 {1} {2} {3}

smell

what is your favorite smell?

cookies baking in the oven and my boys fresh from the shower!

wine

how do you define luxury?

an incredible bottle of wine, sitting outside somewhere beautiful.

81j3rfXRwmL

what’s the last book you read and loved?

the nightingale was one that stuck with me.

summercheeseplate

what are your vices?

wine, cheese, more wine! not so original in that one!

ped

finish the sentence….i can never leave the house without:

clothes? haha! ok, seriously….. probably a pedicure.

what advice would you give your 25-year-old self?

stop being so critical and don’t compare yourself to anyone else, just own what you have.

travle

what does your ideal 2 weeks off look like?

a perfect mix of exploration and relaxation. traveling somewhere i have not been, and adding a little adventure, some sightseeing and a lot of food and wine!

deserted

give me your 5 deserted island items….people and things?

is it bad to NOT bring my kids? i mean, kinda selfish, but i would want them..although i know they would whine the whole time killing my relaxing vibe. so maybe not! being politically correct i should say my husband, but he’s not very handy, and i think charlie hunnam seems to me like he could build us a house and whatever else i needed. a coco jack– that way i could drink a lot of coconut water and stay hydrated. a phone to call my kids and husband {just to check in because i wouldn’t actually want to leave charlie all alone,} a kindle to read {assuming i had a lot of books already downloaded,} and a good pair of shoes for hiking.

what is your idea of perfect happiness?

i think i just described it above….:)

ok really. finding balance, real and honest friendships, and the ability to spend quality time with those i love. oh and if cellulite didn’t exist!

Night-Guard-for-Teeth-Grinding-Treatment

 family members excluded what is your most prized possession?

family excluded…..well, i am not really into things…i think as unglamorous as it sounds my night guard..keeps me from having migraines…and that is pretty prized.

 in what historical era would you most like to have lived?

i am fascinated by the WWII era, but i’m not sure i’d want to live then.

Death_to_Stock_Photography_Venice_Sun10

 what are your favorite things about living in southern california?

the weather! growing up in arizona it’s really nice to not melt when you walk outside.

plastic-surgery-1-998x1024

 what are your least favorite things about southern california?

being far from family and how perfect everyone looks is…kinda hard on us perfectionist, aging women!

thank you alexis for letting us crush on you today, and giving us a glimpse into your life—you are sweet as nektar!

it’s friday i’m in love…..

April 24, 2015

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

friday dark circles and breast pump blisters to you m’loves.

we are three weeks into parenthood, and cherishing whatever sleep we can get.

jones and priscilla, already on nanny-duty, insist on supervising every feed and diaper change. they, too, are grabbing naps at any opportunity.

besides the new little person and my loyal beasts {yes that includes my husband} here are some other things i’m LOVING this week:

sanitizer (1 of 1)

during our hospital stay, the one piece of advice we received over and over again was the importance of having ridiculously, clean hands. until my girl gets her shots {which she most certainly will—-please don’t go there with me,} her immune system is vulnerable to germs and other uglies lurking on door handles, faucets, and cell phones.

have you ever looked at how germy cell phones get?!?! blech. it’ll stop you in your tracks next time you grab your android to facebook post.

besides mandatory hand washing for all, the doctors and nurses encouraged us to have anti-bacterial gel throughout our house.

i’m actually still dealing with a rash i caught from the gel they used at the hospital—super harsh to my skin, with ingredients more irritating than anne hathaway. so i was happy to find this more natural version from bath + body works.

eucalyptus and spearmint scented, this gel kills germs, smells heavenly, and doesn’t irritate mine or baby’s skin.

oats

thank you to all who have offered me links for various “lactation cookies” to help with the breastfeeding; but the last thing this post-partum bitch needs is another cookie to eat–my pre-pregnancy weight is a long, 22lbs away and these maternity jeans aren’t getting any looser.

i’m sticking with {and luckily i LOVE} trader joe’s organic oatmeal.

super quick to make and it is perfectly delicious just on its own—no need to add sweetener or milk.

YouTube Preview Image

are you guys watching lip sync battle!??!

my stretches of tv time are lately confined to 30 minute increments {usually with me attached to a breast pump.}

and i’m kind of over anything too heavy, involving kidnapping, murder, or the abuse of a child and or animal. even keeping up with the kardashians seems to border on child abuse for this hormonal mommy—-seriously? when did that sweet, little kylie turn into rupaul?

lip sync battle is the perfect, 22 minute, giggle-inducing, brain-cell diminishing, small-screen nibble.

anne hathaway’s version of “wrecking ball” officially shuts down all her haters……

😐

 and as if ll cool j. hosting isn’t reason enough to watch.

book (1 of 1)

so i’m on my third go-round of pamela druckerman’s bringing up bebe.

an american living in paris, druckerman investigates the intricacies of french parenting and how it leads to independent, self-sufficient, non-bratty, happy children.

hunkiest and i are trying to perfect “the pause”—-a tool in teaching your baby how to self-soothe without hysterics or leaving your baby feeling insecure or untrusting….no this is NOT letting your baby “cry it out” uncontrollably so back that opinon truck up right now.

the only crying-it-out taking place in this household is mine…..boo-hoo’ing over the fact that i still give a rat’s ass about grey’s anatomy {major spoiler in link….}

i’m actually trying to employ “the pause” in other areas of my life needing a little less reactivity: my neighbor’s 6:30am saturday tree-trimming, my portion control come mid-afternoon, and now ABC primetime television.

604214922167_nakedbeautybalm_illuminating

i’ve pretty much stayed house-bound these last couple of weeks; any forray out into public becomes a drinking game opportunity where hunkiest and i take a shots every time someone tells me how tired i look…since i kind of want to avoid fetal alcohol disorder and we’ve run out of uber drivers,  i’m limiting my outings.

when i do have to venture past my front door i make sure i’m shellacked in urban decay’s illuminating beauty balm. this vegan sunscreen/moisturizer/dark eye circle disguise helps me look a little less zombie, a little more planet earth.

so that’s all i got.

care to share what’s in your friday pocket o’favorites?

see you on the other side of sunday m’loves.
