what i’ve been googling lately?

April 21, 2015

so with just a little over two weeks in to this motherhood gig i can attest to the following ultimates: i am the happiest, the sleepiest, the most-frightened, most crazy in love {with baby, husband, + beasts,} and the most fulfilled of my entire life.

we’re on the every three-hour feed schedule which really means i am awake every TWO hours so i can feed, burp, pump, and think irrational, paralyzing thoughts.

hunkiest and i ditched all of our pre-natal classes for grilled cheese sandwiches and truffle fries at eat chow; so much of this has been on-the-job training.

google is our bitch.

she’s helped me find the best foods for breast milk production {oatmeal,} and coached me on how to install a car seat without getting a divorce {let the wife do it.}

here are a few other google searches in my caché:

how early before my newborn sleeps through the night?

how long does fireball stay in breast milk?

woman’s world record for oatmeal consumption….

oatmeal toxicity…..can you overdose on oatmeal?

golden retriever night nurses…..

training your dog to change diapers….

the birthday cake diet.

how many susiecakes does it take for diabetes to set in?

sleep deprivation used as a method of torture.

can you die from lack of sleep?

do newborns require a ticket for coachella?

toned biceps from burping your infant.

how to swaddle my 42-year-old husband?

cataclysmic euphoria: a new mom’s love for her baby.

wish you a tuesday of cataclysmic euphoria m’loves.

p.s. the winner for the “knocked-up fitness” giveaway is Jenn Salusbury–please email me so i can send you your prize.

summer in the south

August 23, 2014

house (1 of 1)

named the ‘devil’s elbow cottage,’ our sweet, abode is nestled among 300 year live oaks.

we watch over the marshes and waters of the pinckney island wildlife refuge, in what’s called “low-country;” a snippet of south carolina’s most beautiful and historical land.

for one week, we have made merry on this 150 acre private island.

from hour one we were in deep smit.

katieporch (1 of 1)

with a front porch made for afternoon, sipping of sweet tea, we spy on baby dear and a neighborhood of great egrets play in the bog.

tea for him, coffee for me; a screened porch for us both.

breakfast (1 of 1)

scrambled eggs and a smile every morning for the boy i adore.

dock of the bay (1 of 1)

early mornings {when the temperature is in the cool 90’s} we meander through different parts of the quag; a hose down at our dock is always our final stop.

foreststitting (1 of 1)

late-afternoon cocktail hour adjourns under the palmettos and myrtle oaks.

bikes (1 of 1)

i really don’t see the need for a car.

yes, it is hotter than georgia asphalt, but i can always nose out a breeze.

my husband disagrees vehemently with these statements; the only fight between us concerns the use of air conditioning.

if i had my way we’d eliminate it completely.

swings (1 of 1)

i swing for hours.

church (1 of 1)

and we find a church so stinking adorable, i become a believer right there on the spot.

ruins (1 of 1)

south carolina’s history is inescapable.

petcemetary (1 of 1)

even in the 19th century, the people of low-country revered their pets.

plantationhouse (1 of 1)

in this building i have the meal of a lifetime: an endive/arugula salad drizzled with black truffle vinegarette, a cheese plate so good i ask for smelling salts, and a blackberry cobbler topped with homemade brown butter ice cream that will haunt my culinary dreams for years to come.

geckos (1 of 1)

i make a friend.

reading spots, with every possible view, are uncovered each day.

cottagespa (1 of 1)

there may have been some pampering.

the look of not wanting to go home.

rockingchairs (1 of 1)

the seduction continues for one more day.

i don’t know what i’ll miss most about this trip.

the night-blooming jasmine providing a sweet, fragrant balm from sunrise to sunset?

the surround-sound sonata of cicadas harmonizing within the live oaks, heavy with spanish moss drapery?

i’m already yearning for more thunder and lightning storms who show up unannounced, smack in the middle, of a sunny, hot day.

and i regretfully admit to my new attachment to this salty, muggy air that has transformed my hair and skin back to a shiny, dewiness i haven’t seen in 20 years.

wendells (1 of 1)

but most of all i’ll miss this time with my man. we hardly get these long stretches together, and i’ve bottled these memories up to last me until next time.

so….until next time.

the liebster award

February 27, 2014

remember me?

this has been the longest hiatus i’ve taken from writing…

getting back into the swing of work has been a bit harder than i had anticipated.

my body was not ready for the decathlon my anxiety-riddled brain craved, and BAM! my knee and hamstring gave out like two, third-string, hacks, posing in the major leagues.

i’m also cramming, winter semester, final-style, to teach at a new, local studio…i’m loving the stimulation and creativity, but it’s keeping me up late, at the barre.

and also, there’s just been an influx of overall farce and folly {all of it giggle-inducing} around the house, which has kept me far from these happy sounding laptop keys.

i am glad to be back.

i can’t believe it, but i actually have even been nominated for an award…

unfortunately not of the academy type; so signor armani you can cease the hemming of my floor-length tulle skirt you insisted i wear sunday night….but i’ll keep the pearls and save my frock for some later springtime fete, perhaps a picnic or sail? armani]

but back to my nomination…it’s called the liebster award…it’s a type of blogging award…except there aren’t any judges, there is no ceremony, definitely no red carpet, i don’t need even need a blow out {i still might get one though,} and no actual winner…

so, yes, i’ll ABSOLUTELY take it.

thank you silentblackstarrs for the nomination…i am tickled kelly green.

liebthe only requirements are that i answer the following questions…

here goes:

1) what got you to start blogging?

definitely my deep narcissism and self-absorption.

it is my firm belief that everyone in the world wants to know what i eat for dinner and what i wore while eating said dinner. i owe them this information and the accompanying selfie.

 2) if you could choose to be in a movie, what would it be?

YouTube Preview Image

“grease 2” no hesitation.

my “cool rider” blows up that bitch michelle pfeiffer’s rendition any day of the week….

my “girl for all seasons” is a close second. i am constantly perfecting this routine.

she’s my coach.

3) if you can say one thing to the person you are missing right now, what would you say?

rob!!! we’re out of talenti!

4) if God appeared in front of you right now, and told you that you can change the path of your life (your career, the partner you chose, the place you are living, etc.), what would you change?

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

first i would say to her, good luck hosting the oscars…and second i would ask her to not change anything other than to please not me live longer than the people i love {this includes my dogs!!!}—oh and to never cancel true detective.

5) who is the person you love hanging out with most?

my husband.

6) describe that person please.

he doesn’t say much, but the stuff he does say makes my knees weak, and when he says those things, i faint a like pre-teen at a one direction concert…

7) what is your jam? (your theme song!)

YouTube Preview Image

8) if you were given a chance to have one talent, what will it be?

to not leave places messier than how i found them {both literally and figuratively.}

9) if you had to choose one food for the rest of your life to eat what would it be?

10) have you ever been nominated for a liebster award before?

but i’m still going to wear a pretty dress today.

thanks again to silentblackstarrrs for the nomination…and i hope to see you here tomorrow m’loves…
